Places to Visit in Bokaro
Bokaro Steel Plant
Once considered to be the largest plant in Asia, the Bokaro steel plant has been the founding stone of the city and led to the remarkable development of not only Bokaro as an industrial hub but also the surrounding regions. This plant is an icon of the city.
One giant artificial lake and three artificial islands along with amazing greenery are what constitutes the City Park of Bokaro. The city park is a lovely place to visit with greenery, lake and beautiful restaurants along the lake’s shore providing a perfect setting for spending some quality time with family and friends.
Garga is a tributary of the Damodar River that flows on the southern parts of the city of Bokaro. A dam was constructed on it in the 1950s to make it the first such river valley project in the country.
Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park
Established in the 1980s, the zoological park became famous for its rare collection of big cats such as White Tigers and Asiatic Lions but due to lack of adequate infrastructure, some of them had to be moved to zoos in other parts of the world. The park premises consist of many interesting things for kids, such as kid’s corner near the bear cage, boating in the artificial lake and a small dam.
Picnics are one of the most loved activities of Bokaro folks. The city loves to go out on picnics and why shouldn’t it just look at the number of parks it has.

Local Food and Cuisine
Being located in the heart of East India, Bokaro’s cosine, like other Jharkhandi cuisines is influenced by the food of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha. The authentic Jharkhandi cuisine is hard to find in restaurants. Some of the important dishes include Litti Chokha, Macher Jhol (Fish curry), Sadhna ana and Marua roti.
