How to Reach BR Hills:

By Air: Mysore domestic airport is the nearest to BR Hills. Regular taxi facilities are available from the airport to BR hills which are at a distance of 97 km. Bangalore is the nearest international airport for foreign tourists.

By Rail: One must take a Train from Bangalore to Chamarajanagar station to reach BR hills as there is no direct connectivity of trains to BR Hills.

By Road: Taxis or local bus services are easily available to reach BR Hills. Cab Rental packages are recommended to reach BR Hills.

Things to do in BR Hills

The Biligiriranga hills or the BR Hill as they are better known provide for a picturesque tourist spot with wonderful floral diversity and a vast variety of fauna as well. Located at a distance of 80kms from Mysore, these hills prove to be a perfect place to visit as a weekend getaway from the urban noise. The distance from Bangalore to Badami is 180 kms and is a perfect place to visit with a lot of things to do over a weekend trip

Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple

Devoted to Lord Ranganatha(Venkatesha), this temple is situated atop the highest peak of the BR Hills. Once in two years, the local tribes of this region present a large pair of skin slippers, measuring 1 foot and 9 inches, to the Ranganathaswamy. On Fridays, a special pooja is performed at Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple to the deities. It is a popular spot in the hills to visit.

BRT Wildlife Sanctuary

Home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, this wildlife sanctuary is situated between the Kaveri and the Tungabhadra rivers, spreading over an area of 540 sq km and is a place the BR hills are known for. The place in inhabited by a number of animals like elephants, sambars, bears and others. One can do a lot of things with adventure activities like professional angling, amateur fishing, coracle boat rides and more. This indeed is an exciting place to visit.

Dodda Sampige Mara

Literally meaning The Big Champak Tree, it is believed to be more than 2000 years old, with a height of 34m and a width of 20m. There are many Shiv Lings surrounding this huge tree. A tributary of river Kaveri flows near the tree. There are numerous legend attached to the tree and it is highly held among local tribes.
