LADAKH: Hidden over high passes in an arid, largely treeless rain shadow, Ladakh boasts
of a classic Trans Himalayan scenery: huge khaki-coloured valleys and harsh rock walls
brought alive by the occasional splash of irrigated green. Traditional Tibetan Buddhist
culture remains intact here, with beautiful monasteries that burst into life during dance
festivals that have changed little in over 500 years. This contains everything an adventure lover wants – epic treks, sparkling high-altitude mountain lakes and a well developed backpacker infrastructure based around the capital, Leh.
Day 1 : Manali to Jispa (137 km)
Assemble in the beautiful city of Manali and gather near the meeting point, the volvo bus stand in Manali. It is advisable to begin your journey towards Jispa at the early hours of the day. Bear witness to the ethereal beauty of Himalayas during your ride. The road to Jispa is choppy and thus it will take about 5 hours to reach Jispa. Cross the magnificent Rohtang pass and make small stops here at Kaisar and Tandi for tea. After reaching the scenic town of Jispa, spend the rest of the exploring the local attractions at your own leisurely pace. Stop over at Jispa for the night and make sure to get plenty of rest.
Day 2 : Jispa to Sarchu (113 km)
Post a delicious breakfast continue your Ladakh adventure and head towards Sarchu. Sarchu is located in Jammu and while crossing over from Himalayan region to Jammu you might feel a change in temperature and altitude. The highlights of this days journey are the Zing Zing Bar, Killing Sarai and Baralacha La pass. After reaching Sarchu spend the rest of the day relaxing at your own leisurely pace.
Day 3 : Sarchu to Leh (250 km)
Post a scrumptious breakfast, begin your journey from Sarchu to Leh. The terrain is tough and you will be required to make 21 hair pin bends in order to reach the top of the mountain. These 21 hair pins, also known as Ghata loops are a wondrous sight. During this journey one can come across plenty of scenic places and the best among them are Pang and Tanglang La. After reaching Leh, make sure to get plenty of rest to wash away the fatigue of the days journey.
Day 4 : Leh local sightseeing
Post a scrumptious and a hearty breakfast, set out to explore the fantastic and mystic capital of Ladakh; Leh. Leh has won the hearts of many tourists due to its scenic beauty. Make sure to visit all the important tourist places the Leh has to offer which includes the Shanti Stupa, Jama Masjid, Leh Palace, Polo Grounds and the War Museum. Finish your day with a lovely dinner and make sure to get plenty of rest.
Day 5 : Leh to Khardung la to Nubra Valley (140 km)
Post breakfast, leave Leh and head towards the Nubra valley. You will be crossing the Khardung-La pass, which is also known as the “world’s highest motorable pass”. After crossing this magnificent pass, head towards make a stop at the Siachen base camp a North Pullu. Later, the sand dunes of Nubra valley will welcome you. A stay in Nubra valley is completed only if you undertake a double humped camel back ride indigenous to this region.
Day 6 : Nubra Valley to Tso Pangong Lake (140 km)
Post breakfast, head towards the Pangong Tso lake. The lake of Pangong Tso is amazing and it is extremely beautiful. Additionally, this is the scenic lake which is shown at the climax of the Bollywood movie 3 idiots. Spend the day frolicking on the banks of the lake at your own leisurely pace.
Day 7 : Pangong Tso to Leh (140 km)
Post breakfast, make way towards Leh from Pangong Tso lake. Take in the beauty of the crystal blue waters one last time before you begin your journey towards Leh. You will be crossing the Chang-la pass enroute which is the third highest motorable pass. Make pit stops at local tea shops to enjoy a pipping hot cup of tea with the Himalayan mountains in the background. After reaching Leh, spend the rest of the day at your own leisurely pace.
Day 8 : Leh to Sarchu (200 km)
Post a scrumptious breakfast, leave towards Sarchu from the land of Leh. Take the Manali-Leh highway and keep riding towards Sarchu. En route cross the Tanglang-la which is the second highest motorable pass in the world. Tanglang-la is also called as “highway to hell”. Reach Sarchu by evening and spend the remaining day at your own leisurely pace.
Day 9 : Sarchu to Manali (225 km)
Post breakfast, begin your journey towards Manali from Sarchu. Take in the magnificent sights of the wonderful Manali-Leh highway for the last time. Revisit the Tal lake, the Rohtang pass or the Baralacha pass and spend some time in a scenic paradise. After reaching Manali, spend the rest of the day at your own leisurely pace.
Day 10 : Departure
After a delicious breakfast, pack your bags with souvenirs and memories of the adventure of a lifetime in Ladakh. Begin your next journey back home.
