The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India .. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.The name “Rann” comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning “desert”. The area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people.

Famous for: The Rann of Kutch is famous for the 3 month long festival during winter called the “Rann Utsav Festival” which is organised and hosted by the Government of Gujarat. Here tourists can see the various sights of the beautiful white Rann. The utsav gives visitors the chance to experience full moon on salt deserts and also to get a taste of the local culture, cuisine and hospitality. Local houses are specially built and are used to house tourists to give them a taste of local traditions. Many adventure clubs and travel clubs organize expeditions.
