Raigadh in a glance :
Raigadh is a hill fort situated in the Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. The Raigad Fort was built by Raje Chandraraoji More of Jawli later Shivaji seized the fort and made it his capital in 1674 when he was crowned as the King of Maratha. Here are a few places to visit in Raigadh.
Jagadishwar Temple :
The main deity of the temple is Shri Jagadishwara. Shivaji who was an ardent follower of the Hindu religion was known to visit the temple daily. The temple was built in the royal palace and it’s dome represents the Mughal architecture of that time.
Raighad Fort :
Raigad Fort is the main attraction of this place. Rich in history and culture, this place still has the ancient charm to it. Situated at an altitude of 2,700 ft. above sea level, this fort is situated near Mahad in the Sahyadri mountain range.
Raj Bhavan Raighad :
Raj Bhavan is the palace of Shivaji Maharaj from where he ruled and made his important decisions pertaining to his kingdom and his subjects. The Palace, a part of the Raigad Fort, is a silent witness to justice, sorrows, happiness, victories and defeats of Shivaji.
What to eat in Raigad : The local cuisine here is dominated by Maharashtrian food with a blend of South and North Indian cuisine. This place is known for it’s spicy food. Misal – a spicy gravy of potatoes, peas and other sprouts, makes for a mouth-watering meal.
